I don’t hide that I’m in college. Heck, I don’t even hide my blog from all of my professors. So it’s little wonder that I have a cell phone.
However, my goal when purchasing a cell phone was very specific. It made no sense for me to commit to a two year contract because I simply wouldn’t use my phone enough to justify it, but I need my phone in case of emergencies or if my ride breaks down. Additionally, and very unfortunately, my father’s health isn’t the greatest and he may need me to assist him with something that he simply can not (or should not!) be doing.
So a prepaid cell phone works perfectly for me. Personally, I only pay $25 every three months and this gives me the ability to call someone if my car breaks down (which has happened a few times in the last couple of months… argh) and it gives my parents the ability to call me if they need me. I also have access to text messaging via my phone, which comes in handy in its own right.
For my situation it’s worked out great. I shopped smart and found an inexpensive refurbished phone, it costs me next to nothing, and I get the peace of mind of being a phone call away.
Of course, if I knew several talkative people then it wouldn’t work out quite so well, but that’s not the case for me. I have a simple phone with a simple plan that’s there when I need it. It couldn’t be simpler, which is a great thing in my book.
