I just ordered some Korean language keyboard stickers. The cost after shipping was just under $6, so it definitely didn’t hit the pocket book too hard.

Actual keyboards (that I’ve found) that are made with the Korean characters on the keys are typically $60+. This price is crazy when you consider that the board that I have now was $15 after shipping and it has multimedia controls.

So anyway, the stickers definitely seem to be the most economical way to go. I just hope that they hold up.

Ideally this will allow me to eventually begin writing posts in Korean. I can’t exactly guarantee that I’ll do so because this depends on how well I learn the language. However, I would like to eventually make my blogs multi-lingual. At the very least, doing so will provide an opportunity for me to continue using the language which in turn should help me to retain it.

Theoretically. :-)

This weekend will have a great deal of time devoted to studying the vowels & consonants. I have the vowels pretty much memorized, but I have trouble recognizing them out of order. As far as the consonants are concerned, I have only a few of those down.

I’ve toyed with the idea of making flash cards for the vowels & consonants, but I’m not sure that I learn very well using the flash card method. Being a hands-on learner I seem to retain things better by physically using things, or simply doing something that engages my mind (like trying to read multiple Korean words that has the same unfamiliar character(s) mixed in with them at different locations inside of the words (start, middle, end of word)).

I have a ways to go, but currently I feel very optimistic about it. Once I have these memorized in such a way that I can recognize them easily then reading (and hopefully speaking, for the most part) the language should come much easier. Again, theoretically.

Korean seems to be a very straight forward language. The instructor has joked (prodded?) a couple of times about “now you can read!”, heh heh. To be honest, I do appreciate how simple the design of the language is. I’m gaining a little more appreciation for the Korean culture from what I’ve seen thus far in this class.

Later folks!
