I have a goal for home entertainment. It’s a goal of comfort and total immersion.
Those are some of the items, but it doesn’t completely explain it. So let me give some details.
The XBox 360 with the HD-DVD player is going to be networked with my Vista Ultimate PC (this will allow streaming of music and videos to the 360 or vice versa). The 42″ 1080p HDTV will not only be my TV, it will also double as my computer monitor (via the second HDMI port if necessary). Cable / Satellite (whichever, if I bother with either) will plug into the PC as well as be fed to the HDTV.

The Idea Behind It:

The stereotypical “family spot” of a house is used as the blue print (though I have no family of my own). The entertainment system should allow me to record my TV shows, listen to my music, play my games, watch movies, and check information that’s important to me (RSS feeds), and it should do all of this with the hardware being nearly invisible.
Once it’s done there will be no “computer room” or “computer desk”. There will be no computer chair to tear up the carpet or to scuff up the floor. Wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, and wireless 360 controllers will allow me to interact with the system while sitting comfortably on the couch.

Sure, this is going to take me awhile to attain. The items are expensive (especially the HDTV) and I’m not made of money. The best part of this goal is that I accept this fact. I’m patient.
