Zhyling is my character in 9Dragons, a free MMORPG. The game uses realistic martial arts set in mythological ancient China; in other words, all of the traditional beliefs of Chi are real in the game’s setting. This provides the casters and healers that are typical to MMOs.

9D is quite the grind fest, but what can you expect from a free MMO? There are some nice martial arts moves to watch until they become repetitive, and it also has plenty of typical MMO quests and tasks. Not too shabby for a freebie.

Anyway, Zhyling is still a very low level but I nonetheless managed to buy her the important pieces of the Fine Blue Azure Fine Blue Wind(?) outfit, I think that it’s called. It’s quite a lovely suit if I do say so myself. Not pictured is the Fine Azure Blue Wind hat and gloves, which are replaced by items that actually have stats on them, and the (nifty) rollup backpack.

Garments do not give defense bonuses in 9D, they provide pockets. Trinkets are added to the pockets (one per pocket), and those trinkets are what typically gives your characters the various stat bosts. Some garments will have minor bonuses on them as well, but generally speaking the more pockets that it has the more “powerful” the garment is.

The pig hat is a lucky charm of sorts. Apparently, in China, it is now the year of the pig (in real life), so tradition holds that anything about pigs is lucky. Or something like that. Anyway, in the game the hat adds some nice bonuses. So she wears it despite the head band looking so much cooler.

As with most powerful items in these games, the pig hat has a time limit before it poofs. The time limit in this case is 15 days (but of course, you could always get another one if you get the drop to turn in for it).

Oh, before closing this post I should mention that I know that her name is not proper Chinese. The proper spelling was either already taken or is used for an NPC. In any case, the game wouldn’t accept it.
