Hey UK readers, do you ever listen to the trading post on the morning radio? If you’ve ever tried to get through then you know how difficult it can be to get your items mentioned to your local residents. You can either try again the next morning, or maybe take out a newspaper ad…
Or you can use the new service ItsMyMarket.com. Posting classifieds on ItsMyMarket is free, and they offer a variety of categories (vehicles, services, a wanted section, property, and so on) to post your classified ad.
They also offer other services such as localized weather reports, dating, even cinema listings. It certainly seems like a promising, free service. If you’re in the UK and want to sell your stuff then you’ll want to look into them!
I’ve been looking over some HDTVs for awhile now, doing what consumers do as I try to find a product that offers good cost versus performance. There’s contrast ratios, response time, required number of ports to plug everything in, and so on… bleh.
There’s a new review site that could help you find HDTVs and other gadgets that’s called TestFreaks.com. They currently have a large list of HDTV reviews, and will soon be launching with even more content.
For those who are more technically inclined, they are also going to offer a forum for developers.
They currently have categories for cell phones, digital camera reviews, MP3 players, and a host of other gadgets. Check ‘em out, they may be able to help you find the best HDTV, or whatever it is that you’re looking for.
You know what makes PayPerPost great? The fact that the only other system that made me money was Side Show Collectibles, with Text Link Ads being a distant second. The latter has paid for the hosting of my small blog with a bit of cash left over.
I’ve done Google’s AdSense and have used many other programs, but they have all fallen flat on their faces. They’ve earned nothing, and continued to earn pretty much nothing for months in a row. Realistically, the only way that you’re going to make money using those programs is if you have a significant amount of traffic - or have your friends click through your links, I suppose, if you’re the type to do that.
It’s kind of fun that so many interesting games are taking advantage of cellphones. My favorite TV shows, Stargate, has been running a competition that requires sending a text message with the answer to a multiple choice question.
I would just like to say that I’ve got all of them but one correct so far.
Now there’s a new website called bid4prizes that gives away prizes and uses the cell phone (or their website) as a means to play. The way that you play is you make a bid on a prize and hope that your’s is the lowest unique bid.
For example, everyone is going to bid an amount of one cent. That’s pretty much a given. That will be the lowest bid, but it won’t be unique because everyone else is doing it.
Being a college student can be interesting in that pretty much everyone is wanting to give you loans. I’ve always seen it as preying on the young and bright eyed.
Credit cards have been no different. I received two offers in the mail from the same company (I won’t say which), each offering a credit card specifically for students. I darn near took the first offer, but ultimately I put both forms through the paper shredder. Seriously, it’s way too easy to go into debt as a student.
At this time I don’t have a single credit card. I look at this as an accomplishment because it’s sooo easy to look at something and think, “I could pay that off in a month or two”. I know me, I would do that.
It shows my cynicism that this surprised me, doesn’t it? It’s the kind of thing that makes me stop and go, “huh… wow”. When you consider everything that happens to the people over there and in addition to that all of the problems that my country has caused them one would think that they would have no reaction to this. Or even hear about it to begin with.
Then they turn around and do this. Frankly I find it quite touching.
Here is one of the best quotes that I’ve ever seen come out of Iraq:
“We denounce the shooting in Virginia Tech because it targeted students of knowledge,” said Hassan Abdul-Karim, a junior engineering major who said he has lost two friends to deadly insurgent attacks in his neighborhood of Baghdad. “Al-Qaida in Iraq does the same thing here in an effort to make ignorance prevail so its ideology can win.”
Right on.
Hm. An enlightening way to start the day.

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I’ve been using PayPerPost for some time now. It has been an interesting way to make some money, to be sure, and strangely enough my blog has not imploded because of it. Huh, imagine that!
Nor has PayPerPost despite the naysayers… which is an entirely separate post. In fact, they have recently acquired another company! They just keep chugging along at full speed, and in typical PayPerPost fashion they are keeping the details secret until later.
They seem to really enjoy creating speculation on blogs, not that I can blame them; that’s their business model after all. It’s also kind of fun for us to speculate.
So who could they have purchased? I have no idea, but I am going to take a safe bet and say that it’s an advertisement company. Yeah, that’s not sticking my neck out too far is it? Alright, so here are a few random guesses:
Ratified unanimously in 1797 by the Senate, Article 11 states: “As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion”
This is just a little something that most U.S. citizens need to read. This is all, have a good day.

I was talking to an old pal of mine the other day about relationships, and the subject of dating sites came up. She has met a couple of guys from dating services and she suggested that I make a profile as well.
In response I brought up the point that dating sites are often dead (the other people haven’t logged in for quite some time), impersonal, and so many of them want you to pay if you want to send or respond to a message. Oh, it’s free to sign up, sure, but if you actually want to use the site then it’s “pork it over, buddy”.
We both agreed that this is a seriously lame tactic.
Do you read blogs every day? Is there a blogger that you really like, or even better, that really gets on your nerves?
Now you can nominate your favorite (or least favorite!) blogger for the notoriety or infamy that they deserve. The new blogger awards is a digg-like system with several categories, including some fun ones like “Freakiest Blogger” or “Most Obnoxious Blogger”.
Some other examples of their categories are:
You can add your own blog to the site and encourage your visitors to vote you up, which could be a fun way to see how many people are paying attention to what you’ve written. Of course, it could also turn out to be a depressing realization, but it’s all in fun… right??
There are also fun “brag badges” that you can add to your blog for those of you who are lucky enough to have your visitors randomly nominate your blog for an award. There’s one for each category, so not even the “worse blog of all time” should feel left out.
Voting continues until May 22nd, so there’s still plenty of time remaining. Now go vote and have fun!
