over using tornado sirens, again

my city is over using tornado sirens, again. as usual. every year it’s the same thing.

this time there are no clouds in our skies what so ever. there’s a very small cell to the south west of my town that’s headed this way, and when I say “very small cell” I mean that I could draw it in a bout 3 seconds with a pencil.

but the sirens are blaring away.

why? because some town to the south west of us has a twister.

nevermind the fact that it would take 20 minutes to get here, assuming that the twister even remained on the ground for that long. on the they go, and they’ll run for probably around 30 minutes.

No one here pays attention to them. this city is going to get people killed becuse of this shit.

hell, my father just took the dog for a walk. yep, people are real concerned.

bah.

I don’t want a twister to hit, obviouisly, I just want my city to get their heads out of their asses. this crying wolf crap has to stop. if a twister ever does come through so many people here are going to die because they cry wolf like this year after year, multiple times per year, and we’ve all learned to ignore the sirens. well, as best as one CAN ignore the blaring noise of a tornado siren.

someone to the south west of us is going through a hell of an experience right now though. I sure hope that they’re all okay.

oh, by the way, this marks the third or fourth night in a row that they’ve ran the sirens.

FedEx Are A Bunch of Lazy Bastards

My package is sitting in a shipping facility a mere 30 minutes away from my house at the Fed Ex shipping facility. I paid extra to use Fed Ex instead of UPS, and you know what I get?

A message that they didn’t bother delivering it today for no other purpose than “package not due for delivery”. Well, FUCK YOU! Let’s see if I ever pay for your shit again, mmkay?

Could have had it by now, too, if they’d just got off of their ass.

Lazy bastards.

The Hypocrisy of Consumers: iPhone & PS3

There’s something that I would like to point out. It’s obvious, but I want to point it out anyway: Consumers are hypocrits. Total, shameless hypocrits.

What’s rubbing my nerves is all of this BS hype about the iPhone. Let’s get something clear from the beginning: it’s a cell phone, nothing more, and it costs $600!! Despite this absurd price everyone’s gushing about the iPhone and waiting in line for it; in many cases they’re camping over night to spend $600 on nothing more than a cell phone!

What is really amazing about these people is that they - some of them being ‘public figures’ such as Kevin Rose - will complain about the cost of the PS3. They call Sony “nuts” or “insane” for pricing the PS3 “so high”… but here’s a news flash for you, the PS3 is $600.

Yep, the SAME price tag that’s on the iPhone. Read the rest of this entry »

JCPenny’s & The Ghostly Shipment

What a catchy headline, eh? This is actually another venting post. Perhaps I should rename my blog to “Steph’s Venting”, considering my recent string of posts. What can I say? I guess it’s been a frustrating week.

I’m not that kind of angry at the moment though. No, I’m the cool, collected kind of angry. So we won’t be having any vitriolic venting in this post.

One would probably think that ordering from JCPenny’s wouldn’t be such a difficult or frustrating experience. They’re a big name, and heck, we even have a local retail store. There really should not have been a problem.

Well, one would be wrong, apparently.

I ordered a nice leather trench coat from them, and done so via their website because their local branch did not have any coats that caught my fancy. In fact, I found the same coat cheaper at a different online retailer, but I went with JCPenny’s because of my familiarity with their company.

Yet here I sit, totally disgusted with them and quite certain that I will avoid even their local branch the next time that I set out to buy cloths, coats, shoes, or other items.

At the root of the problem is a late shipment. Now, I expected it to take some time for the item to ship. You’re duly informed about that. However, come Monday or Tuesday I should be receiving the item, but the reality of the situation is that - if I am lucky - they’ll finally be shipping it.

Of course, I shouldn’t have to point out that I will then have to wait for it to be delivered. So let’s sum this up:

  • A week’s (or two) wait for the shipping date to arrive
  • A week over due to leave their doors
  • Possibly two weeks to finally reach me if/when it does ship
  • Total: Four weeks. One month of waiting for the coat

That’s if it’s not delivered late (due to holiday shipping volumes slowing mail delivery in general).

I really need this coat. Or just a coat. One that keeps the cold out. Why?

Bastards, and why I don’t like to deal with the public

My current job at the University is cleaning restrooms and the like. As is typical of this type of job I place a sign in front of the door that states that the restroom is closed.

People tend to ignore the sign and enter anyway, so I also began placing the mop bucket in front of the door. They would try to enter, the door encounters the mop bucket, and at worse they walk away cussing.

Until the arrogant bastard today.

Jacket Zipper Broke

So, the zipper on my leather jacket broke today. Darn thing tore right off at the bottom after refusing to zip together. I’ve only had the jacket for a couple of years.. sigh. Next one that I buy is not going to have a zipper; that’s enough of that. :-/ ’twas a cold morning.

Unhealthy: The AdSense/Yahoo Ad Click Hype

As you can see from both of my blogs, I use Google’s AdSense as well as Yahoo’s Publisher Network contextual advertisement systems (on seperate blogs, of course*). Due to the over-protective rules of these programs I can not give any specifics about what my earnings are. So I won’t.

…but let me tell you, I am REALLY sick of stories like this.

They suggest that all that you have to do is start a blog or a web site about some random subject and lo’ and behold, you’ll be raking in the dough.

Nonsense!

Firefox Places Important Information In The Cache

Well, this is just wonderful isn’t it? I just found out the hard way that the Firefox browser stores all of its bookmarks inside of its fricking cache. Not only are the bookmarks stored in the cache, but apparently so are the settings for all of extensions. Lastly, the skin/theme also appears to be stored in the browser’s cache.

Bright idea there, folks!

Better Email Filters

My previous post has me thinking. EMail services really need to make real filters, not this weak stuff that we have now.

I want to be able to sort messages by the name of and/or the type of file that’s attached.

I want to be able to set up a filter that says, “If there is no text in the body, and there are two attachments, and the attachments are called such-and-such, then do THIS with the email”.

It can’t be a hard thing to do, so why do we still have weak, limited filtering capabilities? Shame on all of you, email services!

It’s far more frustrating than it needs to be to sort my mail.

That is all. :P

Grrr #@$! GoDaddy!

Damn it, I had all of my domains except ShadowsInMotion.com set to NOT auto renew. WTF does GoDaddy do? Auto renew my other domain! I get an email “order confirmation” that starts, “as per our agreement, we have automatically..” … grr BS!

So I log into my account and lo & behold, each of my domains are set back to auto renew. So I just went back through them and turned it back off, again.

What a bunch of crap. >.< Of course, payments on domains are non refundable so there's nothing that I can do about this.

Totally torqued off at the moment. >|
