Here’s something that I haven’t done in a very long time - I’m tinkering around with Linux.
Quite some time ago I was doing tech reviews on Shadows In Motion. I have since drastically changed that blog’s focus to something more personal, having become burned out on the sheer number of tech-centric blogs.
At the time that it was tech focused I spent a good bit of time reviewing various distros of Linux. One distro in particular done a very nasty number to my HDD and, without the technical know-how to repair the thing, I ended up spending $80 on a new drive. It was then that I called it quits with Linux.
Fast forward to today and here I am, using Ubuntu v7.04. I have to say, it’s still the ugliest Linux distro that I’ve used.
It’s still frustrating as hell, too. I only just now got the wireless Internet to work, and only then after hours of tinkering with both the router’s and Ubuntu’s settings. “Just works”, my ass! lol Well, finally it’s going and the O/S is now downloading updates as I type this.
My sound doesn’t work, of course. Audio and wireless Internet connectivity have always been the biggest pains in my arse on Linux.
…but it’s working! So I suppose that I’ll continue tinkering with it. It has the entirety of my 80 GB HDD to settle into. My other O/S is Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit and I’m dual booting between the two. Vista currently resides on my 100 GB HDD.
We’ll see how this pans out.

The switch over to the new domain from the sub-domain has completed (actually quite some time ago). The only thing left to do is to get Feedburner to accept it, but it keeps giving me this inane error:
The URL you entered does not appear to be a valid feed. We encountered the following problem: Error on line 90: The reference to entity “domain” must end with the ‘;’ delimiter.
I have ran my feed through their so-called “feed medic” and it passes the test. Line 90 also does not mention the word “domain” at all, not in readable text and not inside of XML tags.
So I don’t know what its problem is, but I’ll mess with it more later. For now, I must sleepies.
EDIT: I just clicked through on some of the headers in my feed and noticed that it points to the new domain already. Hmph! Well bugger it then, I don’t need to edit anything over there. All done!

EDIT: This process is done and was completed with a few simple clicks. Sweet. The feedburner feed will be updated to the new domain in a day or two, but it doesn’t matter because the sub-domain links will continue pointing to the correct articles here.
Alright!
In a few minutes (right after posting this) I am going to attempt to swap this blog to its own domain name, www.stephsblog.info. Mind you, this is the first time that I’ve done this so we won’t be surprised if things don’t go entirely smoothly, right?
If all goes well, then this blog should not lose any content at all. I am told by my host that the sub-domain should continue to work and that none of the existing data should be deleted.
The Feedburner feed will be updated to reflect the new domain name. You should not need to resubscribe to the feed. You may see every post in the list of feeds be flagged as a “new” post, but beyond that (::fingers crossed::) nothing else should go awry.
Oh, one last thing. Domain names need to propagate across the Internet. It may take up to 48 hours for this blog to respond to its new domain. In the interim the sub-domain should continue to work.
So, onward to StephsBlog.info!

I’ve sent the upgrade request to my host and should have a bigger hosting package by this evening or tomorrow. This means that Steph’s Blog ∙ Info will become its own domain name (conveniently www.stephsblog.info). That domain currently points to a blogger hosted temporary blog that I’ve been using as testing.
Theoretically this change should be very simple. Everything here should remain the same, the only difference is that accessing this content will now be done from its own domain name.
I’m still toying with the idea of putting ShadowsInMotion.com at Blogger since I rarely update it.
Anyway, this upgrade will also allow me to begin working on one or two of the other websites that I have planned.
Weee…

Well, this is kind of annoying. My blog’s Google page rank seems to have vanished and is suddenly “0″. Previously it was either 3 or 4… I’m thinking 4, but I’m not entirely certain at the moment.
Anyway, is Google doing some sort of juggling of their cache or is this something else entirely? I can’t say, but it’s an interesting if not somewhat unfortunate turn of events. My blog today has more links to it than it’s ever had, and now Google decides to drop the ball. Yay.
~Steph
The domain Stephsblog.info now points to this blog. For a brief moment I had it pointing to Blogger, but this may work out much better.
It’s the same blog and all of the original URLs still work. All of the existing content is here. It’s just a new domain. It’s quick and dirty, true, but it seems to be working so far. We’ll see how this experiment goes.

Vista (Ultimate) has what should be a very nice built in feature. It’s a full calendar system that not only (is supposed to) keeps track of your schedules, but it can also pull in data from online calendars. So if you want your Google Calendar data on your desktop, you can do that.
At least you should be able to do that. That feature has never worked for me; in fact, adding an online calendar causes Vista’s calendar to crash each time that Vista boots. However, that’s not specifically what I’m writing about today.
This is:
These are three items that are currently broken in my installation of Windows Vista Ultimate. There does not seem to be a way to fix these issues so I am at the mercy of Microsoft eventually fixing this. Some day… hopefully.
These are all issues specific to my machine. I am not saying that these are universal Vista problems. Maybe they are, maybe they’re not.
I’ve been running Windows Vista for about 10 days now so I thought that I would take a moment to write a brief update of my experience thus far. I do not have the time to write the detailed commentary that I would typically write in a post like this. My apologies, but that’s just life for me at the moment.
