Bad Days Suck

You know that you’re already having a bad day when you’re walking to your car and asking yourself, “What else can go wrong?”, and then you don’t even surprise yourself when you casually begin to mentally stroll through possible answers:

  • Maybe so-and-so will call me and tell me that she doesn’t ever want to see me again? That would be a perfect way to complete this morning!
  • …or maybe I’ll get into a wreck on the way home?
  • …..and then she’ll call me! Yeah, that’s $#!%ing fantastic.

Bad days suck. :|

It’s A Good Morning

The air is crisp, but not cold, and the morning just feels like it has life to it. Is this because I was able to sleep in today, or is it for other reasons?

I don’t know, but it feels like a beautiful morning; like one of those days that you just want nothing more than to run outside in your t-shirt and stay outside all day.

Unfortunately it’s too cold for that, but nonetheless, that’s how it feels. Like a beautiful Spring morning. I guess I’m just going crazy. :-)

Yaarrg!

For Fun: Golden Compass Test Result

I’ve been toying around on OKCupid today (view profile) and enjoying some of the tests. One test in particular actually hit with impressive accuracy. The results even caused me to laugh out loud at one point because the statement about “my Daemon” was just so very true!

This particular personality test uses The Golden Compass as its basis. It supposedly determines your “Daemon” according to the setting of the The Golden Compass, but I can’t say because I haven’t read the books nor have I seen the movie. After this fun personality test, however, I may very well rent it and read it.

A link to this personality quiz is at the bottom of this post.

Unknown Miriam Yeung CD

It’s a shame that no one who visits my blog can read Mandarin, or whichever dialect of Chinese this is. I have no idea what the name of this CD is, and I’ve had no luck finding this CD on Miriam Yeung’s official website or on the Miriam Yeung wiki entry.

By some odd, random chance that someone swings by this blog that reads this language - and I don’t ever expect this happen, sadly - then how about dropping a line to tell me which CD this is? :)

This Miriam Yeung CD was a gift from an ‘ol friend of mine. Totally unexpected, but totally cool. Miriam Yeung has such a lovely voice!

I wonder if i got the name in there enough times for keywords. Surely her fans will find this post some day…. right? :-P

Later folks.

Netbank Shut Down By The Feds

Wow! I used to have an account with this bank. Netbank has been shut down by the feds due to too many defaulting loans.

What’s kind of disturbing to me is that Netbank appears to be owned by ING, and I have a savings account with ING. This makes me question ever using that savings account for anything serious. Then again, I don’t know the technical ins-and-outs of the banking system so perhaps this is a non-issue.

Whatever the case, this definitely raised my eyebrows. Netbank was pretty darn good back in the day and I wouldn’t have ever expected them to go under.

Car’s Windshield Smashed

Some time last night the tree limb above the car snapped. As wonders would have it, it came smashing down onto the windshield directly in front of the driver’s seat.

The insurance company - the ever useless blood sucking vampires that they are -

insist that they don’t cover this sort of thing and are refusing to pay out any money to assist in replacing the broken windshield. A used one will cost $200 if you’re lucky enough to find it, but no one in town has one.

So, yes, I will be walking for awhile. Kind of ironic since I had decided to begin walking those 10,000 steps a day, but wow what a way to start. ;-)

Bleh.

Birthday Shopping

With the bday over (for all practical purposes) I’m down about $230. Nothing quite like shopping for yourself, eh?

I’ve always wanted a nice leather trench coat but they can run $800 or more. This leather trench that I ordered appears to look decent and the price is just mind-blowingly inexpensive. Honestly though I’m not expecting much from the coat at that price.

I already have some Isotoner gloves that should look pretty nice with the coat, and these new shirts should hopefully keep me nice & warm with assistance from the trench.

Still on the To Get list is a scarf and possibly a hat. With any luck I’ll be able to find those in town so that I don’t have to pay shipping on something so small.

I did go to the mall today but the shops were (of course) closing early, so nothing got done there and I didn’t catch Rush Hour 3 as I was considering. Oh well, hey there’s always Netflix.

Later folks,

What to do for my bday?

Shall I sit around on my ass on my bday, or shall I do something? Unfortunately it’s tomorrow, which is Labor Day here in the U.S. That means that public places are almost certainly going to be packed.

On the other hand I’d love to see Rush Hour 3. Hm hmm hmmm… what to do? As far as presents go I ordered a new karate gi tonight as a sort of present to myself, but I’m not entirely certain if I’m going to keep it.

As one pal said, them’s some expensive cloths to get kicked around in.

I debated getting a computer part as a birthday gift, but I promised myself no more of that until I reach a level of physical fitness that really makes me proud. I’m guessing that will be 4 to 5 months from now.

Another option that I’m considering is ordering myself a nice leather trench coat for this winter. I’m definitely going to need a new coat regardless because the zipper on my existing jacket is permanently farked. I’ve always wanted a nice leather trench… and let me tell ya, last winter sucked. Sleet and ice all over the place and I couldn’t zip my jacket up. urgh…

Anyway, that’s enough ramblings from this birthday boy. Good night folks.

Long: Various Ramblins

This is a rambling post that covers a variety of topics and thoughts. Just FYI so you know ahead of time.

It’s a pretty dull night tonight and the college kids’ party next door promises to prevent sleep for me this evening. Damn kids.. >.< heh, oh boy.. so I'm trying to pass time.

I'm definitely in a bit of a lull this evening. You know it's pretty bad when you're passing the time with this kind of crap:

In other news…

Looks like Sunday & Monday (Monday = holiday) will be my exercise days this weekend. I’m going to (try to) give an extra day for those blisters to callous over. In the mean time I’ll do some crunches, push ups, and anything else that I can think of that doesn’t require putting pressure onto the soles of my feet.

In so far as Korean is concerned, I’ve been told that I’m doing pretty good but I don’t entirely believe it. Then again, I have a difficult time taking compliments at face value and, as always, I try to judge a situation intuitively. It’s just lovely being an introvert at times. Frankly, I don’t think that I’m doing all that well in the class. I can study harder though, so I’ll just have to do that.

If I don’t live up to my own expectations then I’ll never be satisfied.

“How do you say ____ in Korean?”

From the “<sarcasm>nobody saw that coming</sarcasm>” department, everyone that I know is starting to ask me how certain things are said in Korean. Never mind that I’ve had only two classes and couldn’t possibly know how to say much of anything…

I can understand why they do this. Humans are inquisitive creatures that love to experience (and try) something new. A new language provides them this opportunity.

There’s also the fact that I live in the U.S. If your family was born here then it’s pretty much guaranteed that you speak only one language: English. Breaking outside of this typical American mold makes you a caricature of sorts in that you’re so different from the norm that everyone can’t help but focus in on you.

I find myself feeling genuine sympathy for foreigners who move here. :-) I can only imagine how frustrating it must become when a “foreign” language is your native tongue.

Personally, I just wish that everyone would remember that two or three classes isn’t enough to have learned how to say anything of substance… ::sigh::

Oh well. This kind of attention will no doubt increase as the semester moves forward, so I may as well try to get used to it I suppose.

Anyhow, I’m just rambling. Later all,
~Steph
