Update: Still a few too many technical problems, but I was impressed with how smoothly Ubuntu runs these days. It’s not that far from being a viable desktop alternative. I certainly miss the incredible customization available on the desktop, that’s for sure… but that’s what I miss the most about it.
Oh, well. I do still hope to get a mac laptop as mentioned below.
It’s time for bed but here’s a quick update.
I’ve switched to Linux. My passwords are insane passwords (created using PGP or similar tools) that humans could not possibly memorize (unless you’re a savant). These passwords are stored in Roboform on my U3 USB stick. Guess what doesn’t run on Linux? The U3 software, of course.
Thus, I have been unable to log in to the majority of my accounts for a good number of days now.
Tonight I’ve got Virtual Box running and Windows installed onto a small 80 GB virtual hard drive. It shall suit my needs until I can afford the (dare I say arrogantly) high price tag of a Mac notebook.
Good night world.

This website was found by my mother, of all people, and I think that she’s going to use it to learn a few words in the Korean language.
The site is called Word Showers, and their service is available for free. Their website seems specifically focused on helping you increase your vocabulary, which is the all important part of learning a foreign language.
I like what I see so far. Each vocabulary group is broken down into a simple 10 words, and the words start out very easy. Both the English and the Korean spelling of the word is provided, and MP3 files are provided for each group of 10. That, of course, allows you to hear how the word is correctly spoken (or you can listen to each word directly from the website).
The word collections are broken down into nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.
They do exaggerate a bit in their self-promotion, but that’s to be expected from any service. Word Showers is a website that I’m definitely going to begin using.

This Spore creature was made using Maxis’ Spore Creature Creator, which is available on the official Spore website.
Obviously I like horror and spooky things, so that’s the kind of creature that I made with the creature creator. The idea behind the creature is that I want it to fly, obviously, but I don’t know if that will be possible in the game. Spore is not yet released so there’s no way to tell, but you can put wings onto your creature.
This beastie intended to be a stealth hunter and thus has multiple bonuses to stealth, with some bonuses to striking, grasping, speed, and defense.

My HDD is on the cusp of failing. What a pain. chkdsk /r gets to 20% now and I can actually get back into windows, but restarting the system is a terrible risk of not getting back to my data.
my city is over using tornado sirens, again. as usual. every year it’s the same thing.
this time there are no clouds in our skies what so ever. there’s a very small cell to the south west of my town that’s headed this way, and when I say “very small cell” I mean that I could draw it in a bout 3 seconds with a pencil.
but the sirens are blaring away.
why? because some town to the south west of us has a twister.
nevermind the fact that it would take 20 minutes to get here, assuming that the twister even remained on the ground for that long. on the they go, and they’ll run for probably around 30 minutes.
No one here pays attention to them. this city is going to get people killed becuse of this shit.
hell, my father just took the dog for a walk. yep, people are real concerned.
bah.
I don’t want a twister to hit, obviouisly, I just want my city to get their heads out of their asses. this crying wolf crap has to stop. if a twister ever does come through so many people here are going to die because they cry wolf like this year after year, multiple times per year, and we’ve all learned to ignore the sirens. well, as best as one CAN ignore the blaring noise of a tornado siren.
someone to the south west of us is going through a hell of an experience right now though. I sure hope that they’re all okay.
oh, by the way, this marks the third or fourth night in a row that they’ve ran the sirens.
I’ve been back from Korea for about a week now, and I’ve slowly got around to adjust my sleeping schedule. It’s still not quite right yet partially because of the storms that keep coming through and either keep me awake or wake me up at 2 AM. Sheesh.
Honestly though I don’t feel like typing up the long post to describe what we done. I will obviously do that at some point, but the thought of doing so at this time kind of exhausts me.
You can see my pictures as well as some of the photos that were taken by others.
The PSU Group Website - Here is the blog that everyone from the group has access to for posting images and text. It’s currently very underutilized, but I hope that others from the group get around to taking advantage of it.
Korea Flickr Photostream - This is a collection of about 260 photos that were taken while I was in South Korea. The majority of my photos are of landscapes.
Enjoy the views.
